Our national anthem is in need of an update. This is in respect to Reza Barati, the young Iranian who fled persecution in his own country, only to find it at the hands of Australian government representatives on Manus Island.
Lyrics: Australians all, let's not rejoice
We're neither young nor free
Our golden soil and wealth are all
Stained with shame and misery
Our land abounds with nature's gifts that
We're afraid to share
When Reza died, and our governments lied
We lost Australia Fair.
Let history's page record our rage
For the loss of Australia fair.
Beneath the radiant Southern Cross
We toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
A safe and decent land;
For those who come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share;
When Reza died, and our governments lied
We lost Australia Fair.
In sorrowful strains then let us mourn
The loss of Australia Fair.
